In fact, he stayed in the cab outside my front door until he was sure I was inside and safe. It was actually quite sweet. But whenever I tell people that story they reel back in horror. Anyway, back to the point… Here in Canberra, I have caught taxis to and from work every day, and I would have to say that 30% have been young non-foreign men. I’ve chatted to them all (I’m a talkative passenger), and mostly they are studying their Masters or Bachelors in a business or government-related discipline, and working part time. Two have asked me if I’m single (I said no, I was dating someone from the Sunshine Coast), four have been fairly cute, and one was drop dead gorgeous and had me in stitches the entire ride home (he was one of the ones who asked if I was single… damn!). So if I was single, would it be appropriate or inappropriate for him to ask for my number? Given the fact that I was a customer, surely there would be a fear of getting in trouble? So then it’s the passenger’s responsiblity to make the first move and ask? Do guys even think about that or if they were really keen, would they just jump on in and ask you out. I mean, two asked if I was single… surely that’s just as bad as asking for a number? I’m putting this one out there to the male readers – would you ask a customer for their phone number?
